The Data Science Institute (est. 2019) brings together over 150 researchers working in the broad field of data science across faculties and research groups at Hasselt University.
DSI's main objective is to facilitate the data-driven future. We are committed to data-related challenges, fundamental innovations and applicable solutions.
DSI stands for excellent research, high-quality education and impactful services and valorisation in data science. This way, DSI helps students, professionals and the broader society to make the best use of the increasing value of data.
In order to focus its research and identify where and how to invest, the Data Science Institute identified four areas of specific importance for the next few years: data governance, data engineering, data analytics and modelling and decision support.
Our key goal is to provide high-quality data science education in formats that are appealing to students and professionals. The institute supports educational programs at bachelor, master and other levels, with the Master of Statistics and Data Science as flagship programme.
To its stakeholders, DSI presents itself as a trusted partner for challenging projects in data science and its subfields. Trusted, because of our solid roots in fundamental theory and robust methodological developments and a track record of applications to various real-world problems, mainly in the life science sector.
