Content

As part of the next edition of PhDrinks on March 22, 2024 the doctoral schools of UHasselt are organizing a lecture Michael Houben (MACH 8), on 'Intercultural communication/cooperation'.

Universities are vibrant cultural hubs, where intercultural cooperation and communication is daily practice and also daily challenge. During this PhDrinks, speaker Michael Houben will share his personal experiences and key learnings from both his PhD journey and his time working in leading international companies.

  • We’ll explore a recent model that helps to break down the complexity of culture into 8 actionable dimensions.
  • We’ll dive into crafting persuasive presentations considering the cultural background of the audience, because knowing how to do so is essential in an academic setting.
  • And we’ll put special focus on fostering trust, because it’s a fundamental ingredient in any successful collaboration.

By the end of this inspiring keynote, you'll leave armed with a deepened awareness of the importance of culture and practical insights that can guide you through the intricacies of cross-cultural interactions.

The fact that this lecture is part of PhDrinks has two implications:
(1) There will be a reception afterwards!
(2) Attending the lecture cannot be acknowledged in fulfilment of the doctoral school requirements. This is a general agreement between doctoral schools.
