1. KBC Winter school - How can my competences help shape a sustainable future? - save the date

Want to sharpen your industry-relevant competences and skills as a PhD candidate or postdoc? KBC organises an exclusive 2-day winter school on December 13 & 14, 2022, at their offices in Brussels. During the winter school, you will reflect on - and develop - competences that are - and will be - relevant in a multi-faceted global bank, and balance these against the competences early career researchers from all academic disciplines have already acquired. Detailed information about the programme and selection criteria will soon be made available.

2. Your PhD thesis in a Twitter thread: #ThesisThread 2022

The Doctoral Schools of the five Flemish universities are launching a competition “Your thesis in a Twitter thread: #ThesisThread”. The aim is simple: contestants must set out their doctoral thesis, or a part thereof, in a thread of no more than 20 tweets on Twitter in an engaging and accessible way. The contest will run from September, 15 till October 15, 2022.

The aim is to provide PhD candidates in the last year of their PhD projects and those who have defended their PhD within the last six months with the opportunity to broadcast their research, their methodologies and their findings to a broad audience in society. To this end, we are organising a competition in which PhD candidates can compete by submitting a thread of tweets highlighting their research and findings on Twitter. The challenge is to translate scientific findings into easily accessible, simple and engaging language, making use of the possibilities and handling the restrictions of the medium of Twitter. More information about the contest & selection criteria are available here.

3. Mind the GAP

Mind the GAP (Good Academic Practices) is a novel online training tool on research integrity aimed at PhD students and more experienced researchers, jointly developed by the five universities in Flanders, Belgium. The key components of the practice are its 4 main modules. In addition to that, the training tool also provides exercises (‘test your mind for GAPs’) that will help the participant understand and practice certain principles. The Mind the GAP Tool can be found on Blackboard under 'Organizations'.
