1. Interactive Career Day Life Sciences @ Johnson & Johnson (DS HLS) - 22/05/24

On May 22 Janssen Pharmaceutica (Johnson & Johnson) organizes an interactive career day with an exclusive focus on Life Sciences together with the Belgian universities. You can join the event onsite in Beerse to attend live talks, an in-person poster session and a campus tour. You can showcase your research project with a poster and represent your lab for potential research collaborations. Download the template on the website and take the opportunity to participate in a relevant poster session! The template can be sent to doctoralschools@uhasselt.be. The posters will be reviewed by an expert jury and nominated for a best poster award. In addition, the top 3 winners will be offered a follow-up meeting, creating the opportunity to build their network and receive mentorship.

Researchers who will not participate in the poster session are very welcome to register for this event to learn more about R&D activities at Janssen Pharmaceutica and to expand their network. Deadline for registration is April 21, 2024. More information and registration (free of charge).

2. Company visit: Van Havermaet - 13/05/24

Hasselt University and Voka – KvK Limburg join forces by organising a company visit during which researchers are given the unique opportunity to discover the ins and outs of a company. The upcoming company 'Van Havermaet', located in Hasselt, is a versatile consultancy firm with legal, economic and HR-profiles. A professional life at Van Havermaet consists of a good work-life balance and leaves room for growth.

Take a look at these videos for more information and inspiration! The visit will take place on May 13, 2024 - 10:00-13:00. During lunch, you will have the opportunity to speak with different profiles within the organisation. More information and registration (deadline: April 29, 2024) can be found here.

3. Pitch Yourself! Connect and interact with non-academic professionals - 21 & 28/05/24 (EXTENDED DEADLINE)

This unique event actively bridges the gap between the academic and non-academic sector. Junior researchers are brought into contact with (HR) managers from various companies/organisations in a mock job interview context, allowing them to improve their interview skills, get to know the world 'out there' and expand their network. It is a combination of a workshop and a panel session, followed by a networking reception. More info and details can be found on the event's webpage. Do not hesitate to participate in order to prepare yourself for your future career. Apply now by sending a short email and motivation to careercenter@uhasselt.be until May 5!

4. Let's Talk Science, a taste of science communication - 02-04/07/24

Want to get a taste of the world of science communication? This three-day event is all about communicative competences. The applications for an account are open right now! Registering for Let's Talk Science is a two-step procedure. First, we check if you are eligible to participate. Due to limited places, priority is given to PhD students and postdocs. Starting from May 6, 2024, approved participants can log in and register for a maximum of one plenary session and two workshops. On top of that, there is an additional programme consisting of a maximum of one visit to the Ghent University Museum and some inspirational sessions.

You can already find a glimpse of the programme online. Note: the programme is currently under construction. More sessions will be added in the course of the following weeks. This year's edition will be hosted at Ghent University though some workshops can be followed online.

5. Career Week 2024

In the week of June 10-14, the UHasselt Career Center is organizing the second edition of the Career Week. For five days, you can attend all sorts of activities related to the topic of career development. The programme includes workshops on topics such as strengths, LinkedIn, leadership and networking, individual CV coaching, conversations with our UHasselt recruiters, speed dating with colleagues from other faculties, a photobooth and much more. Make sure to register for the activities of your choice!
