Nele Theysmans received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Hasselt University in 2020 after performing her Bachelor’s thesis in the DSOS group on the synthesis of dual-functioning photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy. Subsequently, she received her Master’s degree in Chemistry at the KU Leuven in 2022. Her Master thesis was conducted in the group of Prof. P. Verwilst, where she worked on the synthesis of small molecule inhibitors derived from fragment-based screening to target the assembly of the viral capsid of polyomaviruses. Currently, she is performing her Ph.D. in the DSOS group. Her project focuses on dual-functioning near-infrared BODIPY photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy.
