Maximilian Krack`s academic career started in Germany at the University of Applied Science Kaiserslautern in 2017. He graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's in MEMS engineering (2021 - 2022). Most notably, he went on several international internships including a bachelor thesis at INESC-MN in Lisbon which resulted in an A1 publication and the University of Hasselt, where his effort resulted in a novel way of depositing and aligning carbon nanotubes in ultra-thin layers. At Hasselt University, Maximilian made a positive impression on his mentor Prof. Wim Deferme and his colleagues due to his excellent research skills, granting him a PhD position on production technologies of liquid metal stretchable electronics within a Strategic Basic Onderzoek (SBO) project (2022). In 2023, Maximilian secured a prestigious personal 4-year strategic basic Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (sb-FWO) to focus on liquid metal deposition itself.
Maximilian still has a collaborative part in the SBO project adding complementary benefits to both the project and his own research as well. In this project focusing on Stretchable & UBiquitous Liquid Metal Electronics (SUBLIME) several researchers across Hasselt University and Vrije University Brussels (VUB) are trying to understand the interactions of the materials in liquid metal stretchable devices where Maximilian is focusing on the production of stretchable electronics. For his own project, Maximilian developed a novel process enabling the batch fabrication and deposition of multiple highly reproducible stretchable devices.
His research includes scalable printing technologies of liquid metal including spray deposition with stencil printing and 3D printing.
