Your function

Teaching assignment

As an Assistant in the field of Healthcare Quality & Safety Data Analysis, you will actively contribute to the educational activities within the THINK3 Simulation & Innovation Lab. This lab is part of UHasselt's Master's programs in System and Process Innovation in Healthcare and Nursing and Midwifery. Your primary focus will be supporting the development and delivery of the courses Data Science in Healthcare and Process innovation, where you will help shape educational content centered on measuring and monitoring quality and safety in healthcare systems. Together with the educational team, you will design challenging activities that foster critical, strategic, and design thinking skills in students.

Research assignment

Approximately 50% of your time will be dedicated to pursuing a PhD. Your research will focus on leveraging data to measure and monitor quality and safety in population health management. This will involve analyzing healthcare processes, outcomes, and safety metrics to inform evidence-based improvements in care.

In addition to research and teaching, you will collaborate with healthcare professionals on service delivery processes, working on real-world projects that align with UHasselt's civic mission. This hands-on approach will help you gain practical experience and contribute to meaningful change in healthcare.

Your team

You will become a member of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences and the Care and Ethics research group. The Care and Ethics research group of UHasselt conducts transdisciplinary research with the aim of stimulating innovation in the quality and safety of care. With the help of fundamental, translational and clinical academic research, insight is gained into three areas of expertise: ethics, medical education and quality and safety of care. The research group aims to translate new scientific insights into applications that contribute to a healthy society, in line with the civic ambition of UHasselt.

Your talents

  • You have a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., System and Process Innovation in Healthcare, Nursing and Midwifery, Data Science, Engineering, Policy Informatics, Healthcare Management and Policy, or an equivalent discipline).
  • You are familiar with statistical methods and techniques applied to healthcare data
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R (and preferably Python).
  • You have a strong interest in healthcare and a desire to contribute to solving complex challenges in the system..
  • You have a passion for educational development and research.
  • You have strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and adjust them as needed.
  • You have the ability to work well in a collaborative, transdisciplinary team, integrating expertise from diverse fields.
  • You communicate fluently both in Dutch and English (oral and written). Knowledge of Dutch at a CEFR B2 level (or higher) is required within a specified timeframe after appointment.
  • Dutch is the official administrative language of Hasselt University. If you do not have a sufficient knowledge of Dutch (CEFR level B2) upon your appointment, we expect you to obtain the required level no later than 5 years after being appointed or at the moment of tenure (usually after an internship of 3 years for senior academic staff). We provide tailor-made language training. If you are a coordinating lecturer you must have a command of the language of instruction of the program component at CEFR level C1. We provide tailor-made language training.

Our offer for you

You will be appointed and paid as Assistant.
We offer a two-year contract, extendable twice by two years, subject to a positive evaluation.
