Your function
- You provide technical support to ensure efficient and high-quality operation of the Ecotron. This includes monitoring the operation of sensors, checking the correct data flow to the database, taking water samples, filling tensiometers and installing new sensors.
- You support the management of the Ecotron facility in the areas of logistics, purchasing and budget management with regard to equipment.
- Under supervision, you implement improvements to the infrastructure. This includes the technical maintenance of the equipment, such as adjustments to the rain system and the gas sampling system. Once you have gained more experience, you will initialize, supervise and implement the necessary improvements to the infrastructure yourself.
- You supervise technical projects such as the installation of new (small) Ecotron units or experiments in the Ecotron lysimeters.
- You are responsible for the calibration of the equipment. These improvements contribute to the accuracy of measurements and data and may also be required for safety reasons.
- You will work in a small team with internal colleagues, but will have weekly contact with researchers and engineers from the university and companies. Your workplace is the Field Research Centre at the Hoge Kempen National Park in Maasmechelen.
Your team
The Centre for Environmental Sciences (CMK) of UHasselt manages the Ecotron facility, located in Maasmechelen (FRC, Terhills, the main gateway to the Hoge Kempen National Park). CMK is a multidisciplinary research institute (www.uhasselt.be/CMK ). The Ecotron is a "state-of-the-art" research infrastructure with 12 climate-controlled units, designed to study the dynamics of complex ecological processes (https://www.uhasselt.be/en/instituten-en/cmk-centre-for-environmental-sciences/infrastructure/ecotron ). Your workplace is located in the Hoge Kempen National Park, in a unique and inspiring environment.
Your talents
- You have a bachelor's degree or a graduate degree in a technical field, preferably supplemented with relevant experience (gained through a thesis, internship and/or work).
You are willing to further expand and deepen the specific knowledge required for this position through (on-the-job) training offered by UHasselt.
You communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of Dutch is an additional asset.

You have a driving license B, so that you can travel in function of your work. You bring samples to Jülich (Germany) on a monthly basis and occasionally drive within the region for equipment purchases and connections with UHasselt laboratories and administration.
Our offer for you
You will be appointed as Administrative and Technical Staff and paid by class 7 (degree 5).
