STEREO IV - fourth call for proposals

Research

What?

To execute the decision of the Council of Ministers on 22 November 2019 concerning the implementation of the Belgian space strategy, the State Secretary for Science Policy approved the STEREO IV programme (Support to the exploitation and Research in Earth Observation) on 31 March 2022.

The thematic research priorities are:

  • Impact of climate change on terrestrial/marine environments (data exploitation, monitoring, modeling, mitigation strategies);
  • Advanced Monitoring and Assessment of Hazards (including pandemics);
  • Monitoring environment for improved environmental health and biodiversity;
  • Geo-information for Sustainable and Green Cities.

This call concerns Thematic Network Projects, multi-annual multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary projects with a duration of 4 years.

These projects:

  • aim at fundamental and/or application-oriented research
  • address global societal challenges listed in the thematic priorities
  • are executed by a partnership composed of 2-4 Belgian research teams and 1 or 2 foreign team(s)
As regards innovation, the projects either target the use of new types of remote sensing data, the development of new methods for exploiting remote sensing data, the innovative use of remote sensing in a research domain in which it is already being used, the introduction of remote sensing in a new research domain or a combination of thereof.

The budget for this call is tentatively set at about 7.4 MEURO but may be subject to adjustments!

The following Belgian partners may qualify for funding under the programme:
  • Universities
  • Public research institutions
  • Non-profit research institutions
  

Application?

Submission is a two-stage process: first the submission of an expression of interest and then the submission of a research proposal. Solely those who submit an expression of interest are entitled to submit a proposal later on.

Expressions of interest (mandatory): 30 January 2025 before 4 PM
Research proposals: 7 April 2025 before 4 PM
