What?

TOURNESOL is a scientific exchange program supported by FWO and the Embassy of France in Brussels. The goal of TOURNESOL is to further sustain and expand the collaboration between Flanders and France. The program offers travel grants for junior researchers in the framework of scientific projects. The duration of the projects is 2 years and the funding covers travel and accommodation expenses of junior researchers with a maximum of 2.000 euros per project per year (on the Flemish and French sides).

Who?

The proposal has to be submitted by a principal investigator (PI) of the Flemish research team. The PI holds a PhD and has, throughout the entire period of the project, an appointment of at least 50% at a Flemish University, a Flemish or federal scientific institute, a university hospital, or a hospital with an academic character in Flanders.
Note that the PI of the Flemish research team can have a maximum of 12 years of postdoctoral seniority.
At the Flemish side, only predoctoral researchers or postdoctoral researchers can make use of the funding to travel to France.

Application?

Project proposals are invited in all scientific disciplines and have to be submitted simultaneously at FWO by a research group from Flanders (through the FWO e-loket by using the correct specific application form under the section ‘International collaboration / Mobility projects’)
and at Campus France by a research group from France.

The results will be announced in December 2025, projects start on the 1st of January 2026. Please be aware that all members (PI's and other participants) of the French and Flemish research team should have an account on the FWO e-portal and keep their publication list up to date.
