What?
The Science 4 Policy programme (S4Policy in short) is an 8-year programme that aims at providing a scientific support to the decision-making process in the federal government and its administrations.
FLASH projects are short-term projects with a maximum duration of 12 months and a budget not exceeding 120.000€. The Flash projects are designed to deliver a rapid response to a pressing policy demand for which scientific evidence is requested from the academic community. A call for a Flash project is issued by BELSPO whenever requested by a Federal public administration and its Minister in charge. Flash projects are not intended to produce new knowledge but to use sound existing knowledge to generate scientifically grounded evidence for policy action.
The topics for this call are:
- Comparing Innovative Practices Regarding Ethical and Sustainable Approaches within Food Systems – Elaboration of a methodology and socio-economic evaluation criteria (project of max. 8 months, an average budget of € 10.000/month)
- Fighting energy poverty: Indicators for the evaluation of federal measures (project of max. 4 months, an average budget of € 10.000/month)
- Tax Shelter: an assessment of resources (project of max. 8 months, an average budget of € 10.000/month)
- Safety in the transport of ammonia by pipeline (project of max. 9 months, an average budget of € 10.000/month)

Each call for 'flash' projects is open to the entire Belgian scientific community (universities, higher education institutions, higher education institutions, higher education institutions of applied sciences, federal scientific institutions, public research centres, not-for-profit organisations having the pursuit of scientific research in their statutes).
