In this lecture and workshop, Federico Clavarino will share some of his experience on the topic of “thinking with images” deriving from his research methods that are strongly rooted in his photographic practice, developed over more than fifteen years through projects that often take the form of photobooks.
The presentation will start with the early work "Italia o Italia" (2010 - 2014), a photobook on the lingering weight of Italy’s monumental past on its present landscape. The lecture will then end with his latest project, a practice-based doctoral research that he is conducting on the relation between photographic practices and the notion of entrapment.
Following the presentation, there will be a workshop for PhD students in which they are going to be invited to directly work with / on images in response to the lecture and to specific instructions. Places are limited and registration is required.
