Title
Workshop on Adaptive reuse for the Agency for Immovable Heritage (Research)
Abstract
The Flemish Government has granted ArcK - research Unit TRACE the assignment to organise a workshop for all members of the cell Adaptive Reuse [Herbestemming] of the Agency for Immovable Heritage. This workshop forms one step in a process of drafting a text expressing the vision of the Agency on the topical issue of adaptive reuse of protected monuments. In this particular step, questions are addressed in response to which multiple answers might be formulated, depending on which disciplinary or societal perspective is being taken. The actual project consists of a technical preparation of the workshop, the logistic organisation, chairing the workshop, and drafting a report of the entire process. The project team (consisting of prof. dr. Koenraad Van Cleempoel and dr. ir. Marijn van de Weijer) engaged in a cooperation with three subcontractors. These are Levuur (Annemie Rossenbacker), an office specialised in participation, UR architects (Nikolaas Vande Keere), an architectural firm with a significant portfolio of reuse projects, and Patrick De Rynck, an independent editor often working in the sectors of movable and immovable heritage. This cooperation has led to a scenario for the workshop consisting of three technical sessions, revolving around topical questions related to adaptive reuse, and a conclusive session. Furthermore, the workshop programme is completed with several lectures. The workshop was held on 17 September 2015, the report was submitted 30 November 2015.
Period of project
17 July 2015 - 16 December 2015
