Development of a Rapid Point of Care Device for Tuberculosis Diagnosis in Morocco (Education)

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of world's deadliest diseases, 1% per year of the world population is infected and 9 million develop the disease, resulting into approximately 2 million deaths per year. In Morocco, the incidence of TB for the last 10 years has increased from 90 to 107 cases per 100 000 people, with 70% of the new cases/year with vulnerable groups with limited access to innovative healthcare facilities. The goal of this project is to contribute in reinforcing the implemented national and regional public health strategy in the effective management of TB among local populations. We aim to contribute to reducing susceptible and resistant TB transmission, morbidity, and mortality by enabling early TB screening and diagnosis the poorest and most crowded urban areas of Morocco. Thus, we will develop, in collaboration with Moroccan (MAScIR, ENSA of Tangier, Pasteur Institute) and Flemish (Hasselt University, PXL University College) institutions, an accurate, rapid, easy-to-use and cost-effective point-of-care (POC) device for the diagnosis of TB, which will allow higher access to quality health care for vulnerable groups
