A fundamental study of energy and charge transfer processes in low dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (Research)

Abstract

The main objective of this project is to achieve a fundamental insight in the occurrence and the role that energy and charge transfer processes have in 2D layered and lower dimensional hybrid organicinorganic perovskites. In particular, we fabricate and study perovskites with incorporated organic semiconductors and organic charge-transfer complexes derived from them by intercalation of organic acceptor molecules. As charge- and energy transfer is at the heart of the opto-electronic properties that these materials can display, understanding and unraveling the different interactions that can occur is key towards realizing the next steps in technology development. To the best of our knowledge said processes in this novel class of materials are virtually unexplored till now. It is expected that totally new directions of research will be revealed, eventually leading to a wide variation in applications in electronic and photonic devices. To reach this goal a combination of fundamental interdisciplinary research activities is proposed going from material synthesis, theoretical modeling, structure control on the nano-scale, structural and physical characterization, till layer processing and evaluation of the device physics at hand. This approach is made possible by interacting with the research network that is present, containing partners with complementary background expertise and infrastructure.
