SKETCH-ATLAS: An online educational platform for blended learning with specialised video tutorials on the topic of architectural sketching/envisioning. (Research)

The 'Sketch Atlas' (SA) is an online educational platform for blended learning with specialised video tutorials on the topic of architectural sketching. The SA was developed in the context of an innovative educational project of UHasselt. The current status is a prototype implemented on google sites that is only accessible to students and teachers of the Faculty of Architecture and arts (ARK). It incorporates accumulated knowledge of sketching through a number of video tutorials that are recorded and post processed in collaboration with EDM. As such, it embraces a unique product, on the crossroad of technical innovation and pedagogical knowledge. Several arguments can be raised about the potential market value, which needs to be subjected to further investigation. To exploit the full potential, additional developments are also necessary. Therefore, the aim of this POC project is two-fold: 1. analysing the market opportunities and the possibility of a licensing revenue through a market study and 2. further development of the prototype SA based on the results of the market study. In relation to these two main purposes, this POC project is divided into two phases. The second phase (further development of the tool) will only start after the first phase has indicated the value of the SA in the market.
