Flanders Make SBO project OperatorAssist: A digital assistant for assembly operators (Research)
Abstract
In this project, we will lay the foundation for a digital assistant that serves as a single-point-of-contact between the assembly operator and various information sources on assembly knowledge. A multimodal user interface will facilitate both proactive and reactive assistance: based on the current state of the assembly, the digital assistant will proactively offer suggestions, and when issues arise, the operator will be able to interact seamlessly with the assistant, which relies on its understanding of the situation to provide answers. Besides performance gains, such a digital assistant also provides reassurance, as operators know that they will receive the required support whenever they need it, and new operators will be able to work independently more quickly.
