Title
Prevention and rehabilitation of chronic tinnitus through sports activities. (Research)
Abstract
Tinnitus, the perception of sound in the absence of an external
source for the sound, occurs in 10-15% of adults. Tinnitus is often
related to hearing loss or noise trauma. Additionally, several factors
can influence a patient's tinnitus: anxiety, depression, excessive
stress, the presence of neck or temporomandibular dysfunctions, but
also physical activity has been reported as an influencing factor.
Previous studies indicate that tinnitus is less prevalent in people with
a good physical fitness and that being physically active can have a
positive influence on existing tinnitus complaints. These findings
suggest that prevention of a sedentary lifestyle is important, both in
prevention and in management of tinnitus complaints.
