Title

Towards the ultimate quantum light matter interface (Research)

Abstract

A quantum light-matter interface is a critical building block in many quantum systems, including secure communication links, novel sensors with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution, and quantum computers. Given their excellent spin coherence, diamond NV centers are widely studied for building such an interface. Still, due to their sensitivity to electronic disturbance, they are also challenging to interface with nanophotonic cavities and waveguides, critical for linking separate quantum systems. The currently proposed alternative, SiV defect centers, resolves this issue through its symmetry properties but requires operation at millikelvin temperatures. Therefore, this project proposes using the heavier element Ge, which can operate at more practical cryogenic temperatures but requires electronic control at frequencies above 100 GHz. In summary, we aim to build the ultimate quantum light-matter interface by interfacing a novel type of color centers in diamond with high-frequency electronic control circuits and nanophotonic waveguides
