CASUS: reference framework for a consistent case-oriented approach in teaching Social Sciences (Education)

From academic year 2022-23, UHasselt will offer the new bachelor's program in Social Sciences. To this end, a contemporary curriculum was developed that relies on three disciplines (Sociology, Communication Sciences, Public Administration) that feed three grand challenges (Diversity, Digitization, Democracy). The innovative teaching concept "case-oriented education" will shape the educational learning environment. Although internationally recognized as a teaching concept, case-oriented education is not strictly defined, while a newly starting program needs consistent application of the concept by the teaching teams. The present IOP project therefore elaborates guiding tools such as a frame of reference and templates for case realization. Example cases will also be developed, and attention will be paid to dissemination.
