Abstract
The European University on Responsible Consumption and Production, abbreviated as EURECA-PRO,
brings together nine distinguished institutions: Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria), Technische
Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), Universitatea din Petroşani (Romania), Universidad de
León (Spain), Politechneio Kritis (Greece), Politechnika Śląska (Poland), Hochschule Mittweida
(Germany), Université de Lorraine (France), and Universiteit Hasselt (Belgium). This consortium
represents a harmonious blend of technical and comprehensive, research-driven universities from
eight European countries. With a rich history of collaboration, these institutions collectively offer a
broad spectrum of interdisciplinary expertise.
EURECA-PRO draws its name from United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12, focusing on the
systematic implementation of sustainable practices in education, research, innovation, and society.
This goal is central to EURECA-PRO's mission, strategies, and activities. The consortium's diverse
composition and proficiency in both consumption and production competencies create an ideal
environment for fostering innovation and social advancements.
EURECA-PRO is committed to promoting awareness of responsibility at the individual level and
driving a lasting transformation in the European Higher Education Area. Positioned as a testing
ground for pioneering approaches, it aspires to shape the future of education in alignment with
societal development. Its overarching vision is to become the global educational core hub and a
leader in interdisciplinary research and innovation for responsible consumption and production of
goods and resources. Furthermore, EURECA-PRO aims to set an example for inter-university
cooperation across borders, emphasizing the open integration of society into its objectives and
actions within the European context.
