Barrier for Recycling: Influence of processing on innovative recyclable high-barrier materials for plastic and paper packaging (Research)

The BeFORE-project aims to enhance and disseminate knowledge about the impact of processing on the barrier functionality of packaging materials. These materials, consisting of paper or plastic, are used in recyclable flexible barrier packaging for (pet) food, cosmetics, and personal care products. The goal is to promote the use of such packaging by supporting companies in their implementation efforts. Six case studies will be conducted in close collaboration with companies. In addition to investigating material properties (mechanical, surface, and thermal properties) and mechanical recyclability, attention will also be given to legislation and shelf life. At the end of the project, a brochure will be published to provide further insights into this topic.
