Title

I-TeachLab: Strengthening UDL in teaching, assessment and spatial awareness of the learning environment. (Education)

Abstract

The research project I-TeachLab: Strengthening UDL in Teaching, Evaluation, and Spatial Awareness of the Study Environment focuses on strengthening inclusivity in teaching practices through Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and increasing architectural awareness. The project provides teachers with training and support in dealing with a diverse student population in an appropriate environment. This focuses not only on didactics and inclusive assessment methods, but also on the physical learning environment. The project focuses on raising teachers' architectural awareness of the influence of spatial characteristics (size, layout, furniture, light penetration, air quality, use of colour, noise, etc.) on the well-being and learning experience of users of the space. The research combines qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews, observations and focus groups to understand students' and teachers' perceptions of their learning environment. The central pillar of the project is the development of an I-TeachLab, an innovative and flexible learning environment where teachers can practice inclusive teaching strategies. This lab offers both physical and digital spaces designed to meet the needs of different learning techniques and styles. The project aims to sustainably professionalise lecturers and implement UDL principles across the university, with the aim of improving learning outcomes and creating an inclusive and welcoming teaching environment for all lecturers and students.
