Title

Low-Toxic DRX Materials for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries. (Research)

Abstract

To address the pollution caused by fossil fuel engines, alternative energy storage systems like lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are essential. However, current cathode materials containing nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) pose environmental and health risks. Alternatives like LFP (LiFePO4) and LMO (Li2Mn2O4) lack either high energy density or long-term stability. This project aims to develop disordered rock-salt (DRX) materials that offer higher energy without Ni and Co, making them less toxic. We will use energy-efficient synthesis methods to control crystal structure and morphology, ensuring stable DRX materials. The materials will be characterized using microscopy and spectroscopy, and their electrochemical performance will be tested to meet energy density and cyclability goals.
