Bio-inspired Solar Energy Conversion : Towards Bio-based and Living Photovoltaics (Research)
Abstract
Within this research project, interdisciplinary and exploratory research is conducted into new concepts and materials for bio-based and living photovoltaics solar energy conversion, drawing inspiration from nature and in particular photosynthesis. With this project we aim to contribute to a reduction of the world-wide growing challenge of electronic waste (e-waste) and of solar panel waste, in particular through the development of bio-based biodegradable solar cells for low-power electronic applications, e.g. self-powered low-power Internet of Things (IoT) applications and low-power portable electronics, contributing to a creative and sustainable future on Earth and in Space.
