Project R-15291

Title

Citizen Participation In Local Spatial Policy Planning. (Research)

Abstract

The aim is to formulate recommendations for involving citizens in the drafting of (local) spatial policy plans. A good participatory trajectory offers opportunities to develop a common language on spatial policy and to engage in dialogue about it with citizens, organizations, civil society and other governments. Commitment to participation also lays a foundation for a larger group of ambassadors within and outside local government who help promote the principles of the municipal spatial policy plan. Specifically, the project aims to (1) reconstruct completed policy planning processes in search of recommendations for designing good participation processes and (2) map the diversity of participation cultures within local governments in order to tailor recommendations to this diversity (e.g. large vs. small budget little versus much experience with participation).
