Title
Cervical Cancer Management in Kenya: A Clinical Audit of the Process and Outcome of Radiotherapy Treatment (Education)
Abstract
In Kenya, cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths in women. Most of these women are diagnosed with advanced stages 3 and 4 disease where radiotherapy is the mainstay treatment. From the various studies, results have shown that advanced stage of the disease is associated with poor quality of life and that patients receiving radiotherapy are more likely to suffer adverse side effects. Due to the poor outcome resulting from radiotherapy, a clinical audit and analysis of radiotherapy services is proposed to gain a better understanding of the processes of service delivery and how this impacts CC patient outcomes. The purpose is to generate evidence on potential systemic weaknesses in radiotherapy service delivery and provide recommendations that will inform strategies for improving quality of care, patient outcomes and quality of life for those suffering from this form of cancer.
