Title

BITS Bicycle Traffic indicators: identification and harmonization of data sources (Research)

Abstract

Additional study in the framework of the Convention (2004 - 2007) between the Federal Government department Mobility and Transportation and the Federal Planning Bureau: extension to the bike movements of the transport indicators. To meet a base of measures that lead to a possible moving of the modal shift in the direction of more environmentally friendly transportation modes, statistical indicators have been developed that are applicable to all areas and at different transport modes. Nevertheless, these indicators with regard to the bike are based on a very limited amount of data and measuring instruments which are currently available for cycling, and do not satisfy. The aim of this project is to improve this situation by: . estimating the added economic value of the bicycle . collecting the available data concerning bicycle infrastructure; . registering bicycle ownership; . comparing the share of cycling with other modes of transportation ((if possible, refinements of these indicators according to some variable (eg the transport reason, age, etc.) will be included)
