Project R-4756

Title

Green light Flanders 2020 (Research)

Abstract

As a result of the development and production of high power LEDs as a new light source, the lighting sector is in full motion. Lighting also includes, however, a lot of other aspects such as fitting construction, lighting and interior design, intelligent lighting control, architecture and daylighting. A common requirement for these aspects is the focus on energy-efficient solutions: better light with less energy. For each of these aspects many new challenges and opportunities arise. These challenges fit clearly into international trends that can not be ignored. In a globalized economy, our companies need to be able to respond to this in a timely fashion. This requires knowledge, confidence in new technologies, guidance on implementation and market stimulation. These are the basic requirements we wish to realize with the VIS project 'Groen Licht Vlaanderen 2020'. The innovative nature of this project is situated within all essential elements of lighting. After consultations with the target companies, we selected some specific themes around which knowledge will be built: OLED technology, quality of LEDs, perception of brightness and contrast for both older and younger people, glare from luminaires, integrated interior design and lighting design, impact of systems to save energy and increased living comfort. To bridge the gap between knowledge expansion on the one hand and effective implementation within the companies on the other hand, specific attention will be paid to the development of innovative ideas into practice models, demonstration setups or pre-prototypes, initiated by both project executors and businesses. In addition, individual counseling tailored to companies will be provided to a limited extent.
