Title
Recruit Well, Limburg renovates (Research)
Abstract
WERFGOED wants to facilitate the nearly zero energy renovation (nZE) of individual dwellings on a large scale in the near future. Therefore WERFGOED will establish an innovative trajectory in collaboration with all actors in the guidance process towards renovation and the effective renovation process. This will be realized in a Living Lab in which real renovation trajectories will be executed. WERFGOED focuses on both neighborhoods in municipalities and individual dwellings in the province of Limburg. From an initial group of 1500 interested households, 40 to 50 dwellings will be selected that have the largest renovation potential and a typology that is representative for the Flemish dwelling stock. These dwellings will be clustered in groups of 5 to 10 dwellings. By grouping dwellings and renovating them collectively, an economy of scale will be realized for design, material and construction costs. Within a neighborhood or municipality, this approach aims to result in an effect of inspiration and mobilization on occupants of neighboring dwellings towards renovation. The project consortium offers integrated support and advice for these clusters to achieve NZE-renovation. In this context, WERFGOED will develop prototypes and renovation scenarios to inspire and convince house owners of the technical and organizational opportunities there are for nZE renovation of dwellings. WERFGOED will compose a financial and juridical menu with specific solutions to facilitate the financing of the renovation and to solve juridical barriers. WERFGOED will offer practical support to each cluster for the organization and establishment of effective chain collaboration within construction teams. WERFGOED will check the quality of the renovation concepts with regard to energy and comfort performance and financial feasibility. It therefore will provide monitoring of energy and comfort performance and real financial payback effects before and after renovation. Through the renovation trajectories WERFGOED will create expertise and scientifically based evidence on the barriers and success factors for house owners to choose for nZE renovation. With this expertise WERFGOED plans to set up a permanent operational structure - the Limburg Renovation Shop - where the knowledge and tools developed within the project can be embedded in an integrated renovation approach for individual house owners.
