Project R-5459

Title

Design and optimization of hybrid concrete-masonry bracing systems (Research)

Abstract

Modern hybrid construction consists in the development of innovative structural solutions combining different materials, construction detailing and smart construction processes and techniques in a way that can offer an effective and economical answer to fulfilling specific performance criteria. The objective of such solutions is the implementation of constructive systems where the overall performance is superior to the sum of their individual components. In this context, the present research project intends to focus on innovative hybrid solutions combining concrete and masonry structural elements. The objective is to derive optimized systems fulfilling the most demanding requirements in terms of structural stability while minimizing the construction costs and the environmental impacts of the building process. The outcomes are expected to be formulated as recommendations directly possible to implement by architects and builders.
