What?

With this programme, Hasselt University wants to facilitate ZAP members in preparing an ERC application. The BOF incentive distinguishes 2 categories of eligible ZAP, with each their specific selection procedure:

• BOF TT Assistant professors: they can apply just once for ERC incentive funding during their BOF TT mandate. The ERC-incentive funds can be used to prepare an application for all types of ERC grants such as starting grants, consolidator grants, advanced grants and synergy grants.
• UHasselt ZAP members that don’t have a BOF TT label, regardless of their % of appointment: The ERC-incentive funds can only be used to prepare an application for an ERC starting grant or an ERC consolidator grant. The incentive funding can only be granted once per type of ERC grant application.

This funding can be used to hire consultancy, as a resource to cover for replacement during the preparation of the application, to cover research stays with ERC grantees or top researchers, to fund research activities in order to improve the ERC application, etc. In total, one can apply for a maximum amount of € 15,000. If this incentive is used, no further claim can be made on other initiatives that exist to support an ERC application.

Who?

• BOF TT label holders can submit a motivated application to the Research Council, within the time frame of their ongoing TT appointment. Each BOF TT label holder can receive ERC incentive funding only once.
• UHasselt ZAP members that don’t have a BOF TT label, regardless of their % of appointment.ZAP members that want to apply for this incentive funding to prepare an ERC starting grant or an ERC consolidator grant, need to submit a positive advice of their dean and their director of the research institute/centre if applicable. They will assess the application for funding based on the extended CV (cfr. FWO CV 4 pages) of the candidate and the filled in application form. Only with positive advice, the application will be eligible for the draw of lots.

Application?

• The maximum amount to apply for is € 15,000.
• The proposals must be submitted to bof@uhasselt.be using the application form available on the website.
• Applications by UHasselt ZAP members that don’t have a BOF TT label, need to be accompanied by the positive advice of the dean and the director of the research institute/centre if applicable. Applicants must also add the extended CV (cfr. FWO CV 4 pages).
• The grantee of the ERC-incentive funds commits to submitting an ERC application within the first two ERC calls after the end date of the period in which the ERC incentive funds have been spent (i.e. during the coming or following relevant ERC call). Obviously, the application has to be submitted under a Hasselt University affiliation (i.e. Hasselt University as host institution). Therefore, a registration needs to be sent to research@uhasselt.be so OBI can offer the necessary support in preparing the ERC application.
• Parallel, an application at the FWO for funding a stay with an ERC grantee can be submitted but this is not obligatory.

Timing

• For BOF TT label holders, the call is continuously open. The ERC incentive funds can be used up to 6 months after the end of the BOF TT mandate. This means the application needs to be submitted in time, in order for the period in which the BOF TT Assistant Professor wants to prepare its ERC application, to fall within the maximum spending period.
• For UHasselt ZAP members that don’t have a BOF TT label, the call will be launched in June, for selection in October.
