AI as a creative partner for science communication (edition 1)

28 March 2025

campus Hasselt

Content

Discover the power of AI language technology in this interactive workshop for scientists, researchers, and communicators. Whether you’re using ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini or something else, you’ll collaborate with generative AI to generate natural language responses, brainstorm ideas, and craft compelling scientific narratives. Learn to evaluate AI-generated content and navigate key ethical considerations. By the end, you’ll gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of how AI can support science communication. This workshop, given by Ben Verhoeven (ERLNMYR), is ideal for anyone who wants to explore the future of science communication with AI language technology.

At least three editions of this workshop will be organized throughout 2025.

Learning outcomes

After having attended this workshop, you will...

  • have more background knowledge of language generators and the GPT waves that allows them to understand and use such systems better
  • be able to improve your writing prompts to better put them to practical use
  • understand the ethical and practical considerations of using language generators.

Competences

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

  • interpersonal competences:
    • written communication

Acknowledged as?

  • DS BSH: category 'research management & communication skills' - workshop on communication skills
  • DS HLS: category 'transferable skills' - (half) a transferable skills course
  • DS ST: category 'scientific & generic communication' - course on scientific and generic communication
I recommend this training because it teaches a lot of new skills that can help you to do your research in a more effective and faster way. AI technology is developing rabidly, and it is a missed opportunity not to use it as researchers I believe.

I heard about ChatGPT, but I hadn’t been introduced to it. The teacher introduced it to us in the simplest way, and we explored many available options. It was amazing!
