How do you engage a wider audience for an idea, project or scientific research? Try out your presentation on the test audience in this workshop and learn from the other participants. The constructive tips of doctor in linguistics Ben Verhoeven will support you where necessary. An idea for a class at kids’ university, a talk for the Science Slam or other form of science communication, we will work on it together. We’ll provide each other with a fresh look, creative support and constructive feedback.
Through ERLNMYR Ben coaches scientists in communicative skills and public speaking. Using techniques from improvised theatre he shows that a good connection between speaker and audience is crucial to convey a message properly. This successful approach helped Ben receive the 2017 Year Prize in Science Communication.
Preparation
Don’t forget to bring to the workshop your own talk / class / idea / project connected to science communication to a non-expert audience. Every participant will have 5 minutes for presenting. You can but don’t have to use slides. You will receive feedback from the group as well as the teacher and you can ask for feedback on specific points if you wish. Your presentation doesn’t need to be 100% finished.
Examples are:
- your presentation for a science slam or other SciComm event
- idea for an activity or class at the Kid’s University
- presentation for the participants or stakeholders of your research project
- idea for a media campaign about your research
