Worldwide, Belgium is one of the top 3 in the export of pears. The Conference pear is our main export fruit.
And half of those pears are grown in Limburg.
Whether it still makes sense to create new plantations in Haspengouw, is something that CMK UHasselt will investigate over the next three years in the climate domes of the Ecotron UHasselt.
The research is part of the QPear project coordinated by the Flemish Center for the Storage of Horticultural Products (VCBT), pcfruit is also a partner in the project.
