MARGES is an interdisciplinary research group consisting of researchers in the arts and in (interior) architecture. We explore unconventional forms to gather and transfer knowledge, which can lead to new perspectives for thinking in and through images and spaces.
We believe that it is in the margins that interesting encounters can happen, when two different ecosystems meet and a third zone emerges, an in-between art and architecture, practice and reflection, the critical and the creative.

Passage is a transdisciplinary research line that traverses the Faculty of Architecture and Arts and borrows from both fields in order to explore alternative ways of living, dwelling, and knowing. Passage investigates how contemporary and historical artistic practices in various media can be critically used in the analysis, design, and communication of (interior) architecture. Additionally, it explores how spatial, scenographical, and architectural strategies can be applied in artistic research.
We particularly focus on creative-critical writing open to different media and modes; not only as an end in itself, but as a valuable research method in the Arts and the Humanities.
Tactics is a research group investigating strategies for spatial presentations and representations. By assembling and layering different tactics—from embodied practices and the tactility of making to digital media—we explore their potential to open up new understandings across architecture, the built environment, and landscape. We foster a collaborative environment where theory and practice intersect, while exploring the connection between the discipline of architecture and art.
Our research lines focus specifically on architectural sketching/drawing and material maquettes as mediums of reflection, and on photography and moving images as forms of critical praxis.
