Geert-Jan Graulus obtained his PhD in polymer chemistry from Ghent University in 2018. After his PhD, he joined the Materials Chemistry department at Hasselt University as an assistant to work on protein-based materials for biomedical applications. In 2021, he was promoted to part-time assistant professor (50%). This appointment was increased to 100% in 2023 and allowed him enroll in a tenure-track. His research interests focus on responsive biomaterials, that rely on recombinant proteins and bioorthogonal chemistry.
Geert-Jan co-supervises the Biomolecule Design Group (BDG), which focuses on the design and modification of (protein-based) biomaterials for advanced healthcare.
