Postdoctoral researcher (FWO)
After finishing his Bachelor in Chemistry at Hasselt University (Belgium), where he graduated with Honors, Tom Cardeynaels went to the Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands) to study Chemical Engineering. He performed his graduate research in the group of Prof. E.W. Meijer and Dr. A.R.A. Palmans on supramolecular self-assembling polymers with catalytic properties. He finished his Master's with a 4 months research stay at DSM Waalwijk and graduated with High Honors. Tom then returned to Hasselt University for a Ph.D. in the DSOS group on novel donor-acceptor type emitters displaying thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), in collaboration with the Monkman group (Durham University, UK) for photophysical analysis and Prof. B. Champagne (UNamur) for quantum-chemical calculations. Currently, he is working as a postdoc in the DSOS group, continuing his efforts on TADF emitters and extending his scope to photosensitizers for image-guided photodynamic therapy.
