Equiptment & Expertise:

Our lab is equipped with cutting-edge technology and expertise, including:

Exercise & Muscle Lab Tech
  • Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing & Indirect Calorimetry (Cortex MetaMax 3B II).

  • Heart Monitoring: Polar heart rate monitors and electrocardiography (ECG) during rest and exercise.

  • Ultrasound Imaging: Echoblaster 128 CEXT for muscle and adipose tissue visualization (2D and 3D).

  • Activity Monitoring: Sensor-based tracking (ActiGraph, Garmin) for assessing physical activity patterns.

  • Body Composition Analysis: Bio-electrical impedance for detailed assessments.
  • Physical Training Facilities: State-of-the-art equipment for endurance (stationary bikes, treadmills) and functional strength training.

  • Clinical Testing: Microfet handheld dynamometry for muscle strength and endurance assessments.

  • Blood Testing: Serial sampling during exercise, oral glucose tolerance tests, and nutritional interventions.

  • Muscle Biopsies: Bergström technique for minimal invasive sampling.

  • Histology & Molecular Analyses: Muscle fiber typing, wet-lab analyses (qPCR, Western Blotting, ELISA), and cell culture models for skeletal muscle cells.

Research:

The Exercise & Muscle Lab is mostly related to the following research themes:

The Exercise & Muscle Lab supports a variety of research projects and collaborations, including:

  • EXPERT Training Tool: Enhance your exercise prescription skills with 64 training cases related to cardiovascular disease. Compare your recommendations with those generated by the EXPERT Tool to stay aligned with the latest EAPC guidelines.

Services and collaborations:

With the Exercise & Muscle Lab, REVAL provides a wide array of services, including:

  • Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing: Utilizing the Cortex MetaMax 3B II for assessments in both healthy individuals and clinical patient populations.

  • Evidence-Based Rehabilitation Protocols: Application of tailored endurance and strength training programs.

  • Development of New Protocols: Testing and refining innovative rehabilitation and training methodologies.

  • Personalized Exercise Prescription: Using the technology-driven EXPERT Tool for customized exercise plans.

  • Activity Assessment: Evaluating physical activity and sedentary behavior using real-world data.

  • Integrated Testing: Comprehensive muscle and exercise testing, including gas exchange, blood sampling, local muscle perfusion, strength assessments, and body composition analyses.

  • Muscle Evaluation: Structural and metabolic evaluations through local muscle biopsies, histology, and metabolic pathway analyses.

We offer a variety of collaboration options, including:
