Cultural magazine rekto:verso and Hasselt University join forces to offer a morning of lectures, discussions and interventions on the theme of Monarchy. This event takes place on the occasion of the launch of rekto:verso's brand new thematic issue on ‘Monarchy’. Likewise, the symposium also offers the chance to meet the members of the jury of Charlotte Vanhoubroeck's doctoral defence.
In her PhD research in the arts 'The Sentimental Jewellery of Louise-Marie d'Orléans. An Artistic Reactivation of Material Memories', Charlotte Vanhoubroeck investigated the lost sentimental jewellery of Louise-Marie d'Orléans, first Queen of Belgium (1812 - 1850). These pieces were worn to preserve memories, and thus once enclosed fragments of Louise's intimate world. Based on (art) historical research and artistic reflection, Charlotte reactivated Louise’s jewellery from a contemporary point of view. In this way, Charlotte constructed an alternative version of the myth of Louise-Marie d'Orléans and reintroduces this almost forgotten queen to the public.
After the symposium and doctoral defence, everyone is welcome to enjoy some sentimental splendour and refreshments at Charlotte Vanhoubroeck's solo exhibition, organised in the context of her doctoral defence. The exhibition presents the reactivated jewellery of Louise-Marie d'Orléans, of which many have already been exhibited all over the world. For the first time they have been brought together in this exhibition, amongst them some never-before-seen pieces.
You can register for this symposium and/or the PhD defence and/or opening of the exhibition of Charlotte Vanhoubroeck via this Google Form.
