The Editors of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Brill Nijhoff) are pleased to invite you to their upcoming (hybrid) symposium on “Enhancing Compliance with Human Rights from Below in Times of Crisis” to be held on Friday 13 December 2024 at the Faculty of Law of Hasselt University, Belgium. This symposium seeks to explore how local communities, grassroots movements, civil society organizations and the general public at large can effectively promote and protect human rights when traditional top-down mechanisms falter in times of crisis (climate change, migration flows or political upheavals, etc). Traditional top-down approaches to ensuring compliance with human rights norms can be inadequate due to weakened state capacities, bureaucratic inefficiencies or authoritarian tendencies.
In order to participate in this (hybrid) symposium, please register here before 31 November 2024. Those joining online will receive a Google Meet invitation.
