Organizations use process mining to derive meaningful business process insight from the data stored in their information systems. The data, however, are stored in a format that is not suitable to be fed into process mining algorithms. The data could also include imperfections. In this systematic review, we have identified several activities one can perform during the pre-analysis stage of process mining. We have also explored the techniques and goals of the activities. Furthermore, we also studied the research-related dimensions, such as the methodology used, the nature of the outcome, and the type of data used to evaluate the proposed contributions.
