Bernhard Siegmund received his Diploma degree in Physics at Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) in Germany in 2013 in the field of organic photovoltaics, under the supervision of Prof. Karl Leo. In the following PhD in Physics at TUD, he developed a low-cost sensor for remote material sensing, together with Prof. Koen Vandewal and colleagues. In 2017, the company Senorics was founded to commercialize this working principle, with support from Zeiss, LG and other partners. In the following three years, he supported the commercialization of organic photovoltaics as team-leader in the R&D department of the company Heliatek. In September 2021, he joined the research group of Prof. Vandewal at UHasselt to contribute to its application-oriented activities, as group-leader "Organic opto-electronic devices". Since October 2023, he holds a three-year senior postdoctoral research grant funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). The research of Dr. Siegmund has been recognized by the Harry Dember Prize, the Dresden Excellence Award, and the Innovation Prize of the Saxonian industry association.
