After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Physics at Hasselt University, Sigurd Mertens graduated at KU Leuven in solid-state physics. His master’s thesis was on radiation patterns of all-dielectric nano-antennas, under guidance of Prof. Dr. Pol Van Dorpe and Dr. Niels Verellen. Afterwards he worked in industry as a software & automation engineer. Currently, he is working on his PhD in Physics at the OOE group of Prof Dr. Koen Vandewal at Hasselt University. His main research interests are in photo-thermal deflection spectroscopy and photoluminescence quantum yield measurements.
