Evelien obtained her master's degree in Transportation Sciences – Road Safety at Hasselt University in 2012. In 2018, she obtained her PhD in Transportation Sciences from Hasselt University. The title of her dissertation is “In-depth analysis and identification of intersection safety by analysing accidents, near-accidents and road user behaviour at intersections”. currently, Evelien is appointed as Postdoctoral Assistant and Postdoctoral Researcher at Hasselt University, Interfaculty School of Transportation Sciences. She is a member of the research group travel behaviour and traffic safety at the Transportation Research Institute of Hasselt University. She conducts applied research and consultancy research in the field of traffic safety, (sustainable) mobility and road design within the framework of various national and international applied research projects. Her expertise lies in the field of methods and techniques in mobility, traffic safety and infrastructure. She has knowledge and expertise concerning traffic safety and traffic conflict indicators, different types of accident analysis as well as the design of road infrastructure in relation to traffic behaviour. She also teaches several road safety and mobility related courses in the bachelor's and master's degree program of the School of Transportation Sciences at Hasselt University and she is responsible for the quality assurance within the bachelor's programme.
