Q-NMR

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is widely used by pharmaceutical companies in the process of drug discovery and drug product development. Classical NMR setups require the application of strong and homogeneous magnetic fields, and thus the use of bulky magnet instrumentation. Quantum NMR, in which spin qubits act as nanoscale magnetometers enabling the detection of nuclear spins in close proximity, is expected to lead to the development of miniaturized setups. The Quantum NMR (Q-NMR) project is a three year VLAIO project (2020-2023) which aims at developing a novel type of miniaturised NMR sensing setup, based on ensembles of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres in diamond. The first goal is the creation of a setup for real-time reaction monitoring by NMR. The second focus is the conception of a solid-state NMR imaging system, to study different phases in solid materials.
