Other study costs
Besides the tuition fee, education includes some other costs. We made an overview of these costs for you. Pay attention to the fact that these are only target prices, based on the previous academic year.
The following costs are not included in the average costs per study programme:
- tuition fees,
- optional courses,
- internationalisation,
- transportation to individual internships, company visits etc
Transport
We want to stimulate durable transport, that's why Hasselt University gives discounts and refunds for students who use durable transport. Find out more about the reimbursement of your transport costs.
Student housing
The average renting price for a student room in Hasselt, Diepenbeek or Genk is € 313 per month. The average renting price for a studio is € 430.

Food
In the student restaurants of UHasselt you can get hot or cold meals, salads, soup, sandwiches, fruit and snacks every day. Check the opening hours and discount rates of Hasselt University student restaurants.
Office material and prints
Costs related to the usage of pens, covers, paper, cartridges, press-work and other office material are estimated at € 150.
Laptop purchase
Hasselt University offers 3 different laptops with a very good price/quality ratio. Check our offer.
Health insurance
A health insurance is mandatory for non-EEA students who stay for more than 6 months. The average cost is € 40 per month.

The prices of (new) textbooks and coursebooks are the prices for compulsory programme components. The optional programme components are not included in the total price.
Purchasing used books can be done through Re-Book IT. Before purchasing, be sure to bring your book list (viewable through my student file) so you can purchase the correct books.

(*) Study trips: Not all study visits and trips are mandatory. We estimate the mandatory parts at € 100.
